 What is TNR?

The Natural Resource (TNR) is a ".com" business recently founded in Northwest Ohio. This unique web site has been built by a team of passionate outdoor enthusiasts with the goal of making a wide range of outdoor experiences more accessible to the general public. At TNR, we want to empower you to Do More Outdoors™.

Using The Natural Resource will make it easier for you to plan your next trip on the water, in the woods, or anywhere else the great outdoors might attract you.

At the heart of the web site is a directory of maps containing all of the goods and service providers that cater to a wide range of outdoor pursuits. With a large and growing collection of information about outdoor resources in Ohio, TNR is intended to make getting outside easier and more fun for the occasional hobbyist, the avid enthusiast, and everyone in between. Use the site any time your plans call for an outdoor outing!

TNR is currently being built exclusively for Ohio, though the company hopes to expand to nearby geographies soon.

 What makes TNR unique?

Interactive Mapping

Mapping is the key feature that sets this web site apart. A picture - especially an interactive one - is worth a thousand words, so take two minutes and walk through the Basic Mapping Demonstration to see how "live" maps work. To see the full capabilities of TNR's dynamic maps, click on a subject tab (e.g. Fishing), click on a subcategory (e.g. Fly Fishing Outfitters/Fly Tying), and explore a map.

To learn more about the vendor information TNR will be providing soon (beyond basic contact information), check out the sample vendor membership profiles.

The TNR Bookstore
Just in time for the holiday season! The Natural Resource has launched an online bookstore loaded with great gift ideas for anyone interested in local biology, natural history, recreation, travel, and tourism. This collection has been hand picked and is specific to Ohio, so it's like no other collection available on the Web.

With more than 300 titles (and growing), the library goes beyond books to include magazines, journals, newspapers, and even software that pertain to Ohio's outdoors. Take a few minutes and shop today for the outdoor lover in your life (even if it's yourself!).

Why should site visitors be excited?

A tremendous quantity of up-to-date outdoor information (already over 5,000 businesses/resources strong) is being collected in one place. TNR's goal is to have every business operating in the outdoor industry within Ohio's borders on an appropriate map (or maps - if their goods or services fall into multiple subcategories). This saves time, eliminates frustration, and actually makes it fun to plan your next outdoor outing.

Whether it means revisiting a familiar destination, or deciding it's time to explore "uncharted waters," TNR puts valuable information at a user's fingertips. It's a one-stop-shop!

TNR has concentrated its early efforts on providing basic contact information for each business. But soon the site will be expanding to provide business-specific vendor membership profiles. These profiles will allow users to easily access additional information, like hours of operation, real-time weather, independent vendor web sites, and much more.

Why should business owners be excited?

The Natural Resource provides a unique and affordable way for businesses to increase their exposure and broaden their reach. Think of TNR as an umbrella organization working to make a business owner's job easier. Our job is to promote the outdoor industry by promoting every business that operates within it. Whether a business is a single-location, privately owned and operated corner bait store or a multi-location, publicly held "big box" retailer, TNR can assist in driving more customers to a wide array of store fronts, vendors, and service providers. Ultimately, TNR succeeds through its members' successes.

TNR's mapping "levels the playing field" by putting every business in a given category on an appropriate map. This not only makes more prospective customers aware of the business, it also shows site users exactly where the business is physically located, how to reach it, and how to learn more about the goods and services provided at that specific location.

The Natural Resource can help an outdoor business grow! To find out more from the business prospective, check out Info For Vendors.

  • Visit the site with regularity. Becoming a loyal visitor is probably the best way a person could help The Natural Resource achieve its vision.

  • Spread the word through your friends, family, and daily contacts. Without growing awareness and increasing traffic over time, The Natural Resource would fall short of its intended mission. Help to ensure that every Ohioan knows about The Natural Resource!

Want to know other ways to help TNR succeed?

  • Bookmark the site as a "Favorite" and revisit it often (weekly or even daily, if possible) to see how we're expanding features, capabilities, and content. Just a few minutes of clicking around the site will show you plenty of new information and it will really improve our "credibility" with the large search engines like Google and Yahoo.

  • Help spread the word! Distribute the web address to anyone who you think might have an interest, even if they're not big outdoors-people themselves or don't reside in Ohio. Share your knowledge of TNR with interest groups that you think might participate in the site.

  • Support Ohio's outdoor businesses! Tell the outdoor retailers and businesses where you shop to become TNR members. Explain why it will help them, and how it helps you as a customer.

  • Consider even more active participation. Strong employees are a key ingredient to our continued success. TNR is currently hiring for positions in sales, database administration, and office administration. If you or someone you know would be interested in working in a start-up environment with strong growth potential and an exciting future, visit our Job Opportunities page for descriptions of current openings.

  • Share your comments and criticisms. We need constructive feedback to make TNR better. Pick a subject that you have interest in and dig into a map or two. Tell us if something's missing. Tell us what you like about the site and what needs to be improved. There are multiple ways to provide your feedback through the Contact Us page. All feedback is appreciated!

  • MOST IMPORTANTLY, GET OUTSIDE AND ENJOY OHIO'S GREAT OUTDOORS!
