2008 Edition: Lake Erie Triple Threat

The Natural Resource (TNR) was founded to encourage participation in outdoor activities that help foster the conservation and long-lasting legacy of our outdoor heritage. In support of this mission, TNR is pleased to announce the first annual installment of what is sure to become a treasured collector's series.

Representing the vast majority of Ohio's northern boundary, Lake Erie is a cornerstone of the natural heritage of the state. Walleye, smallmouth bass, and steelhead trout not only share these waters as top predators, but also demonstrate their collective beauty in this remarkable print.

Beautiful either framed or as a stand-alone piece, this unique work of art will look right at home in a wide variety of settings. Lake Erie Triple Threat is available only from The Natural Resource, and represents the first installment of a fish of Ohio print series. New editions will be released annually and each will feature the remarkable works of Joseph Tomelleri. Future prints will include illustrations of largemouth bass, bluegill, channel catfish, yellow perch, white crappie, striped bass, saugeye, muskie, and northern pike, among others.

About the Artist- Joseph R. Tomelleri

Joseph R. Tomelleri is formally trained in biological sciences and received an M.S. in Biology from Fort Hays State University (Hays, KS). After working briefly in the field of botany, Joe decided to pursue his passions as an artist - devoting full-time attention to illustration starting in 1986.

Over the past twenty years, Tomelleri has traveled more than 150,000 miles to collect live fishes for his world-renowned, anatomically accurate renderings. His 800+ pencil illustrations have appeared in more than 350 publications (including more than 30 books), and his artwork has been displayed prominently in or on a tremendous diversity of magazines, advertisements, greeting cards, T-shirts, furniture, trading cards, newspapers, and identification guides.

Cover art and article-specific fish illustrations have appeared in such prominent publications as Field and Stream, Outdoor Life, In-Fisherman, and Sports Afield. Collaborative projects with Bass Pro Shops, Cabela's, Orvis, and Eddie Bauer have helped make Tomelleri a recognized artist with the general public. Illustrations for Dupont and Coca-Cola have also widened the breadth of his reach.

Joe Tomelleri is considered by many to be the most talented fish illustrator active today. His illustrative treasures have found their way into the publications of many state agencies, the American Fisheries Society, influential interest groups like Trout Unlimited, and even the Department of Interior's U.S. Forest Service. (Not bad for an artist who loves nothing better than to slip out with his fly road and pursue a wily trout . . . or carp!).

Recent work with the Great Lakes Aquarium (Duluth, MN) makes The Natural Resource's 2008 Collection - Lake Erie Triple Threat - particularly timely. TNR feels honored to be displaying the work of Joseph R. Tomelleri. We hope that by gracing your walls, these illustrations will bring back fond memories and hasten a call to action to get on the water soon!

About The Series

Subsequent prints in the Do More Fishing™ Series will continue to feature groupings of fish that are particularly meaningful for anglers who frequent Ohio's richly diverse waterways. From "The Big Lake" (Erie) to the Ohio River, Ohio benefits from a tremendous array of aquatic habitats - not to mention a terrific selection of game species to pursue.

Lake Erie Triple Threat is the inaugural release in the series, but be sure to save wall space for more of your favorites. Proposed titles include Ohio (River) Border Guards, Under the Lily Pads, Tackle Testers, Not Just Child's Play, Pond Dwellers, Ready to Rise, and Diversity in Miniature. Please check back with TNR often to view options and availability as new prints are released.

After five days of great fishing in Canada, my husband came home to find Triple Threat framed over the desk in his home office. He called the suprise the highlight of his week! He’s impossible to buy for, so thanks much.
